The last three days in Baja Norte. Glassy long and empty walls of skate park like 4 to 6 foot right hand surf. Logged a lot of hours in the line up with from one to three other friends out. Most sets had four waves, so no one went hungry. We all had noodle arms and smiles. What more could you ask for.
South Shore been pumping for over a week. Most folks are tired now, crowd minimal and mellow.
Some better breaks seeing less than a dozen out, lots of waves peeling off empty.
More swell predicted to continue for the next week.
NW swell with overhead surf due on the North Shore by Tuesday.
Beautiful clear skies, light off shore winds prevail, water temps mid- upper 70s.
had the Harbor at well overhead for days. just camped out in the parking lot and ate pork and beans and instant coffee.
unfortunately got a nasty reef gouge in my heel coming in. 2 inches long and 1/4 inch deep. might have to mow the lawn and do chores next week
"This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before." Butt-head
anyone that might be interested, tomorrow early a.m. wedge we have a new building south and joel is going to come down up to shoot. i have no idea what it will be like ,but i'm keeping my fingers and fins crossed
i only have till about 7:30 or 8:00 but that gives me at least 2 hrs. of hopefully good wedge. come join the fun

Keep those souths heading this way... A solid week of good waves over here.Reef points going nuts.Morning glass, small crew of friends.Bigger yesterday, well overhead, had to break out the pinnie.A bit smaller today with better shape.Says bigger for tomorrow... :D Waters up around 56-58,thats pretty good for june.
Gina mows all the lawns..I keep the machine sharp, clean, and running like a top...
Four of us from our organization, the Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society, took a group of 10 lawyers surfing yesterday morning at Cowell's yesterday morning. The law firm is representing our club pro bono in a trademark infringement case. So, quid pro quo.
What a scene: 2'- maybe 3'- slow rollers and around 200+ of our 'bestest' friends riding everything from 7 foot foamies to lifeguard rescue boards to funky yellowed LBs to airplanes wings. Children and dads, grandmothers, 3 surf school classes wearing different matching colored jerseys and Ride-A-Wave (surfers giving handicapped persons tandem rides) were all out at the same time. It was the ultimate 'party wave' experience.
But, surprisingly enough, I had a great time riding a 10 foot 'tandem kneeboard' and pushing beginners into waves. A lot of laughing and a lot of near misses. lol
I do have one, Ska-baby. My old blue 'n yellow dive mat. And a rash guard to wear with it.
I did ride a prototype mat from Greenough back in 1985-86 during a macker winter swell on the north side of the HB pier. Probably not the best call on my part.
HB northside had some nice sized waves 6 -8 feet on the sets...most were lined up ...BUT there were some lefts that were peddle to the metal down the line chargers...no crowd..maybe 5 guys the river was in full flow and we didnt stop paddling for 2 hours
wayne and I gorged ourselves on the offerings
hope its still around tomorrow
Saw Tom and Wayne drop into freight train lefts, 2-3 turns and 200 yards down the beach. The current was insane. I had to work or I would a went out for a fly with you guys. Some sets had 10 foot faces. Hard core guys. Some sets were 10+ waves per set. No let up.
WEDGE....WEDGE....WEDGE....
it didn't last long before the tide went low and the rips went to work tearing it up. got in the water at daybreak ALONE although Joel was on the beach, 5:15 till 7:00 , some bombs coming through 15' on the face a couple were actually cloud breaking outside a few sketchy duckdives, got some good ones and looked down some not so good ones
any way i am ready to get some perfection a long way from home

Max, we ran into Joel at Trestles around noon today, and he was frothing about your session at the Wedge... sounds like it was maxing Greg and I got windblown Lowers, HH with plus sets coming through... nothing special
Dan, I'll never forget the crowd at Cowells the sunday after the contest this year... 85 degrees, clear sunny skies, dropping swell and 400 of your closest friends and neighbors out on their logs - 8 at a time up and riding - Surf City indeed!

Jim, your trailer? Ping me the next time you're headed down, we'll join up. We hit BM friday, but the winds have been horrible. Gove called a little while ago with a report from a friend that cAlAFiA was DOH+ with maxing sets even bigger at sunset tonight
