When we were kids body surfing our rivermouth we purchased surf mats and ran over the tourist. On the way to the beach our ride would stop at the local gas station and we'd get those mats pumped hard as they could stand it. As long as they were fully inflated and rigid you coukd knee ride them, Mostly straight. One fellow ,Johnie Fertaudo, could stand up and again ride straight in.

Anything can be built if you have the time and inclination, I would agree with Zorro that 3 piece would be better. You would have to accept that the flex would probably be awful, but how about having the rear section solid glass as in a spoon, so that at least you would have a flex tail.
I reckon that if you made the front pieces with a foam sandwich skin that you could make it strong and light enough.
Join up could be a couple of carbon tubes that slide into 'captive tubes in each part.
Join up by using something like the kitchen workshop 'pocket bolts'
There I have started, anyone else want to pitch in???

Marky... I don't look at this as a project[yet]More a mental exercise int equipment problem solving.
Good ideas you've got.What I love about this site.Lots of good minds,and expertise-inventiveness in various fields.
And as far as flex?Don't see it as a necessity,especially in small,med waves.
Lots of folks KBing real short,fairly thick boards,that probably don't flex; in sizeable waves.
My little biscuit.5'10""x 2-7/8 is rigid,works to about head high,a real diff. when I jump on one of my flashies.
Another thought...Wide point back of center puts the pressure off the connect area.Wide point forward of center also.

Back in 70's the primo wave in Durban, South Africa was a bathing only area between 2 groynes. We spend many a day devising "soft" kneeboards that would bypass the "no surfcraft" rule.

Funny thing is we came up with exactly the same system as yours. We also thought you could adjust the flex by using different inserts.
Of course we never got around to building it...

id rather prone and get a nice little ride than knee straight in...but when theres no other options i guess as long as you get wet it can be fun......sure wish i had one today...got a couple little barrels on my kb.....

The way to latch the beast together cleanly is something I can't figure.

Don't think vertical join. If pieces meet at an angle or are stepped

it's much easier to fashion a join (from top to bottom deck) that will hold the board halves together

Ah red very good and finger joints would stablize your lap joint along with break down bolt hardware and you've got it. What do you think kman?
