Farrer
Those dimensions are correct..not only for Simon, but for all my shapes. Unless there is reason to do otherwise.
Gavin Colman's tail surfing and power meant that I always dropped his fins back a touch....and all 3 fins were of equal size (same as Matt G now)..
Whereas Simon's and the majority of the market will surf with a smaller centre fin than the rails. Simon rides with GX middle fins (with Merrick rails)..probably 30% less area (?).
Red however, (and a few other of the Phillip Island guys) are using other fin shapes..and willli (Long Island) is using Simon Ando's templates..and I'm assuming they surf with a 'complete' thruster set.
All however, are based on the 17" and 8 1/2" principle to the trailing edge

The yellow outline is the fcs G-AM (al merrick) that bruce recommends.
The overlay is the S3 (simon anderson) template.
I use the S3 side fins, but stick to the two smaller trailers that bruce shipped out, the S3 center fin as yet unused. Maybe some 10'+ day I'll pop it in (Ha! fat chance here on the east coast!)
It's easy to see that the larger base delivers a tad more drive, and it has a slightly different rake as well as less overall height. It also has less flex.
Any thoughts?

Colman
How's it Mike..
7' 6" x 22 1/4"
The brief wasn't actually North Shore.
It was "I want to be photographed surfing the biggest wave on a kneeboard that anyone has captured......."
And Gavin was living West Oz at the time and I figured outside Bomby at Margaret river.
Big OZ is different to big North Shore.
With the help of Brett Warner and Eric Arakawa..this thing happened.
And I'm so stoked it did.
I so hope that Colman does it..because 2 + 2 can equal 5

Bruce,
is this board similar to the ones you are shaping for the gathering? or is that a secret for now
whats the story, did Gavin get the huge waves he was after? is the board still around or in pieces? tell us some stories mr. Hart!

stories
Aloha Mike
Farrer wants one board over seven foot for NSG..but he will also have 3 under seven-o. I've ordered other special blanks (6' 10"s) for Matt Gallagher and Red.
Gavin hasn't yet got the waves he wants. After the World Titles in 1996, Gav detoured away from kneeboarding, only popping up now and then at the odd contest or so.
After the recent Cronulla Pro, we made a time to meet to discuss a newy.
He wants to get back into it (for many reasons) and I think he's mature enough to do so. I say mature because Gavin was such a great junior talent that perhaps only now can he approach kneeboarding without the pressure and contest-orientation that formulated his early years.
He wants to get back into it for fun..and that will be great for our sport.
Colman is one of those kneeboarders who crosses boundaries..even standups talk about him.

glosses
after all is said and done..
it is a wonderful way to complete a surfboard.
the gloss ties every other step together and creates it's own effect (disregard "all that glitters is not.....")
it does add a degree of strength..yet relies on further men to create a skilled response.
A bad gloss will add more resin that may indeed shatter (read stress marks)..but a good gloss, will tighten everything together.
I personally think 'eggshell'..and that can't be bad..(i think

I used to buff out boards at one time. Nothing like a clean gloss job to finish off a project. It took experience to really bring out that high luster...so easy to burn through into the 'glass if you're not carreful.
I always run a gloss coat on my KBs. I'm from the school where I like my KBs 'glassed heavier so I can power them around in turns. Lighter boards didn't stand up to my surfing style.
