since i own a round pin and a fish from bud i'll come at this question in a different way. first, the round pin blew my mind..fast..loose..nice easy feel... everything he said it was and more. the fish..hoooboy talk about burnin water. think about all those waves that the barrel left you behind or sent you over the falls then imagine a board that makes them with ease. ridin this thing you get cocky..you think you can make anything. now i'm not talking his 2K fish..i have his original design with a flatter rocker..but when i saw that new design i developed this pang, sort of like an ache and hunger cause i knew it would rip..and dammit i dont have one...yet.

Bud is probably on his way to Indo by now. I am saving my allowance to get another Blast (or two or three). It sounds like the fish models are more specialized for perfect, hollow and fast waves. So, perhaps it makes more sense for me to get a round pin quad tuned for 1-4 foot, less than perfect stuff, which is a much more common occurance. I would imagine this board would still work well in perfect stuff too. After that a fish 2K may be in order. Does anybody have thoughts on this?

Oh yeah, John, get used to looking further down the line than usual. Bud's boards are FAST! I am not joking.

John,

My parkes swallow tail quad is 6 foot and 23.5 inches wide. We should get together soon trade boards and compare notes. The rocker is moderate and fins are set forward. I think it would be interesting to ride both boards on the same day, same swell, by guys who are basically the same size. I am 220 lbs as well. I will have some more time in late July and August.

Order a stubb vector for the mush. I am first inline when Bud gets back from Indo to get a 6'0 stubb vector for less than perfect waves.

Take a look a his site under designs and the stub vector is highlighted towards the bottom of the page.

I am wondering about riding Bud's Fish 2K in Uluwatu 6ft +. Perhaps this is the right choice for that waves, where first of all you need as much speed as possible.................

Earlier in this thread, Pat Holzman said he was riding his hybrid 2K at Uluawatu and it was handling.

Hey, JohnS- Sewer Peak was 2'-3' with an occassional 4' coming through. There were weaker surfers on the inside and only a stand-upper and myself on the peak.

Although the south swell was a bit weak, I caught a ton of waves that had smackable lips and the was abled to get covered up and come out on the larger waves.

But after about 45 minutes, everyone that pulled up on the cliff saw that we were tearing it up and the mass migration started. So the stand-up cat (an old friend of mine - I played at his wedding) and I just smiled, grabbed a couple set waves and rode in.

We used to make rocket fish at Freeline in the late 1970's. We took a fish template, added a wing and narrowed the tail. But they we're in the 5'2" to 5'4" range.

I'm looking at pads for my new 6'0" - with Baja always in mind. I've alwas used wax since 99 % of my surfing is in the Monterey Bay. A few weeks ago I surfed the Newport River Jetties in just a spring suit and I barely noticed going bare knee'ed ( is that a word.....).

The water is warm around here. I body surfed 26th Ave and Platforms with just trunks and was warm the entire time. While KBing the beaches I had to let water inot my wetsuit to cool down! Now, if the warm stays around and moderates the NWs when they come.

Just got my new Blast four fin 2k fish delivered today! I'm stoked. I've been out of the water due to illness for over 2 weeks, but I'm out there this weekend!

I'll post the pics as soon as the forum lets me in ...

I've always been cursed at having to try out new boards in marginal surfing conditions. But that's how it sometimes is in So Cal. This board has heaps of performance potential that I know will take many sessions for me to explore fully. It is wider with the fins set a little more forward that what I'm used to, so it's definitely a learning experience for me as well.

That much said, it is super loose and very fast. I did the first unintentional fin free tail slide that I've done in years, probably since the last time I rode a twin fin fish. If you point it straight and go it just flies. I'm sure it will outrace any wave out there, as long as the rider gets her mind set tuned to that fact, that is.

If you throw it into a turn, look out! I think it's a bit more forgiving than the parkes shape I rode in that regard, but it will take some getting used to. Right now it seems less like carving and more like pivoting. That's partly me though, having to adjust my style to the board. Time will tell, but so far I like it a lot.

Stoked with how the art came out, too -- almost exactly the way I drew it (amazing!).
