Hopefully, I'll score one of the rare good sessions
CS, snap a few pics. I always love seeing good waves on the Great Lakes! Gotta have one of a kneelo riding fresh water there--we never get to see that.

It didn't happen. The forecast didn't hold, and this moring was ankle high, kind of like a lake. I blame all of you for not thinking sunny happy thoughts about fresh water and pure slush energy. Last night I had a dream, I was surfing in "Puss Lake". It was all gelatenous and stinky, kind of like my hangnail. If there's ever a worthy kneelo shot, it'll be posted here. It'll be like "smell-a-vision". cs

Don't you love when the planets align in your favor. By pure luck I had several meetings scheduled for Santa Barbara and LA on wed and thurs. I left the Oakland airport at 6:30 am, it was rainy and windy but I had the board in hand. Did the self baggage check on southwest and was able to get out of paying board fees. :D

Landed Burbank headed out 101 to Malibu, light traffic :D Malibu was firing but an absolute zoo. Barely could find parking. Headed north to Zuma. Checked drainpipes solid, solid 10 to 12 foot spitting pipes. Two peaks looked surfable. Each peak had 10 guys frothing, decided to pass. Parked and hiked over the hill, in the water by 10:00 or so and surfed the point for about 3 hours. Very nice, fun wave, sets were running 8 to 10 foot reminded me of 4 mile but with a hollow wave at the point. By the afternoon lots of people started showing up. Rumor that Super tubes was working but it was blown when I went by at 2 pm. Wind was hollowing and the point was the only surfable place north of Malibu in the afternoon.

Left the point headed up the PCH to SB for a vening meeting, howling winds, nice swell. Spent the night in Carp. dawn patrol check at Rincon, no go, small and windy. Headed back to the point, high tide but a few nice ones rolling all the way through. Caught some good ones but swell was dying and there was some long lulls. Headed out for 11 am meeting, finished the meeting then on to the Burbank airport. Got nailed with the board fees this time. Got home in time for dinner in Berkeley.

A very nice mini surf trip.

Glassy and raining up here today and some really cold, cold water as
well. JohnnyS and I surfed a fun left bowl, good power and some hollow,
dredging barrels. I got some good ones but paid a price for them. I
was caught inside and tried to duckdive my way through a thick pit
and just got pummeled. Later on I muffed a late takeoff and skipped
down the face, then got sucked up and over the falls for a serious ragdolling!

Johnny got himself some good ones. We saw Lee Taylor, another longtime
local kneelo, out at a peak to the north of us. It felt like winter again
today! 8)

Great to see pics and hear my old stomping grounds (NB / HB) was going off. 8) :)

Been great for a few weeks running out here.

Anyone see this on surfline?

http://www.surfline.com/surfnews/photo_bamp.cfm?id=8742

Besides the shots they show of the "name" breaks the whole coast has been going off !

2-3 and perfect out front today but should come up again in a couple more days. :)

Surfed 4-6' Sunset Wednesday afternoon with just 3 others for 2 hours.
@ of the guys were beginners and wanted nothing to do with the sets or dredging wedges on the Point.

Back Yards had 4 peaks (as good as those cool Oz Pipe pics) and only 5 guys out max, ............no wetsuit needed! 8) :D

Yeah!
You guys down south really scored some nice conditions! Y'all must check out the video @ Surfer magazines web site!! I could not believe the footage of El Moro!! In my youth I spent many a summers day on this stretch of the coast. Never saw it anything close to that!! AMAZING!
Speaking of strange spots that rarely break, on Weds pm I went down and it was major victory at sea - too bad because the swell direction was perfect for some summer spots up here. But by a strange inkling I went to place that is totally protected from N. winds, so much so that no nwest swell can even affect it. It was off shore there!!But it is open to large south swells -this is the only way this place could break. Needless to say it was breaking, but too gnarly for hard board. I really wished I had my bodyboard with me, didn't, so went out and bodysurfed all by myself in my 4/3!It was very Wedge like and I swallowed water more than once!! I was the sole show for many tourists who frequent the pier here after their visit to 'La casa Encantada' up the hill.
Okay 2day. Echo the thought of the water being FREEZING 2DAY!!!
I have been dreaming all week of surfing warm water. . .
Oh for the good old days of Taapuuna and Sapinus and heat stroke!!
Strange April. . .

Malibu has been firing the last two weeks-this past week got Tues,Weds, and Friday.Monday Countyline(so-so). Met up with a few kneelos who don't post, or who have checked out the sight once in a while. Weds 4/11/07 reminded me of Sept of '75. Big,fast and crowded. Had an excellent time
-lots of wave to go around with a few DOH sets(12-13 foot facesCALI scale. The week before was cleaner but still classic Solid OH Malibu-Four days there, one day taco bell reef(tues). Thanks to Chris Buscemi- the blast 5-10 cranks in bumpy bu and thanks to Robert- the Flashpoint 6-0 carves so sweet in clean 8 foot faces. Resting this weekend now that I'm officially 48 years young after lots 'o'waves. Its weird we have summer now with a very scant winter( down here at least).
Peace to all-ps surfed with a lot of "kids" this past two weeks and it was a really good vibe 8) .
