Got a fun late afternoon sesh in today. Heavy, heavy NW winds that kicked
in early AM. I thought it was going to be over before it even started this
morning. Went to the store late this afternoon and decided to do a what
the heck surf check on the way home. The wind was still howling but had
clocked sideshore/offshore holding the lefts wide open! 8)

It reminded me of that afternoon sesh at the creekmouth we had at the
first Jalama gathering. One of my friends was out when I paddled out -
trunking it!! 80 plus degrees on the beach -but about 48 degrees
in the water, what a nutcase!!

Well.....the surf may have turned flat and stay that way for a while but I noticed that the water temp (Torrey Pines Outer bouy) peaked at 68.5 F this afternoon before starting to head back down :D

Brad,

I think a dolphin must have pissed on that bouy! The water temp at Blacks this morning was more like 60.

Don't think of this as a flat spell - just a break from the Wetsand-driven crowds! Wave size is mostly in your head.

Its been windy and crappy in SF for weeks now and basically there is no end in sight. Help! Then just to make things worse, stories about Indo going off and tavy are killing me. At least there are waves somewhere in world right now. Been tracking my frequent flyer miles and hoping a few construction projects go on hold.

Hooked up with Kickstartmyhart aka Rick for some shorebreak waves lasterday. We traded Flashpoints for a few waves, but after breaking a fin the day before I decided it wasn't a good idea (For his board).
A big thanks Rick for letting me borrow the NSG video!!

Checked the buoys before lunch expecting nothing, saw what looked like enough energy to be breaking surf at my local. It was glassy, 1-3', one other guy out. It was so quiet I could hear the spray from my cut backs landing back on the water. Not epic, but not a bad lunch either, right Jimbo?

High waves hit coastal areas across the country

Post by Doc Turbo »

Boys its on, they guys in G Land must be getting this, cuz in West Java it huge.

JAKARTA (JP): High waves hit coastal areas across Indonesia, devastating houses, expelling tourists from beaches, preventing fishermen from going down to the sea, and causing at least one person missing.

On Indonesian main resort island of Bali, high waves hit dozens of makeshift buildings owned by vendors in Kedonganan beach, Jimbaran district, Badung regency after they had been swept by high waves since Thursday.

"A sudden high wave was (also) devastating huts owned by fishermen," a resident of Jimbaran was quoted by Antara news agency as saying, adding that a number of fishing boats were also destroyed.

Meanwhile, beaches on the island, which were usually crowded by tourists, were quiet Friday as they were prevented from approaching those areas.

In Yogyakarta, high waves destroyed dozens of building in Kuwaru beach, Bantul regency. "The high waves, which had occurred since late Thursday to Friday destroyed a number of houses and kiosks," said Ngadiman, member of a rescue team.

Rismanto, another rescuer, said that the high waves reached up to 8 meters above the sea level.

A similar condition was also seen in Pelabuhanratu beach, Sukabumi regency, West Java as hundreds of houses and kiosks were swept by the high waves.

"My house is seriously damaged," said Erna, a resident of Pelabuhanratu district, who was sheltered in a government office owned by the Sukabumi regental administration.

In West Sumatra, high waves did not only damage houses, but also prevented fishermen from going to the sea. An official said that high waves had occurred since Thursday.

In Aceh, rescuers were searching a student of senior high school, who was swept by high waves when he and his friends were in Lhoknga beach, Aceh Besar regency Thursday.

"This morning, residents help us search the victim, by sweeping along the coastal area," said Hendrik, a rescuer. (**)
