teamusa world titles 2011

Post by Bob Gove »

Today (wednesday) started out pretty sloppy, but bigger. Bill got sent down to the repercharge after carding a 6 and needing a 1.75 to back it up, but couldn't get squat. Onshore, no corners, 2-3' overhead. I was a little more fortunate-the tide had filled in and the wind started backing around to sideshore. I went out thinking I was lucky to have the repercharge as a backup plan, but once I got out there, it was really consistent, and I just needed to find some shoulders. After going over the falls on 2 good sized waves, I finally started putting things together. The swell is supposed to keep building through Saturday, and it looks like they might change the venue to Center Crack- a right hand reef that can handle the size better than the beachbreak, and the winds should be more favorable there as well. Last night was bowling night, and Randy Morris won a case of beer with a 147. This afternoon we finished up early after getting the top 64 and reps through, and another case of beer is on the line for 9 holes of golf. Tomorrow is the booze cruise on a boat around the island. Bring on the size tomorrow!!!!

So, Simon, you saying the waves suck or what?
Hard to know what the conditions/wave quality are as there are no reports at all.
How about a quick synopsis? PLEASE!
Good luck mate, Im pulling for ya, Wayno

OOPS! Thanks, Bob

Just saw the repocharge results; go Tom, Bill, and Gunther.
Also, 'the Orange Kneeboarder', Mr Gove advaced in his heat with a first, no need for the repo rd. for him

Hang in thar boyz!

Hey Wayne
No one is missing anything. Yesterday was good contestable waves from 11am onwards. Everyone who does not know much about Phillip isl is that low tide sucks. Really sucks!
So yesterday at mid tide onwards was good for a comp. The waves got better and better with the tide and a 4-5ft swell. The comp was stopped around 3pm to many peoples suprise. Not me as I was off surfing perfect barrels at the best wave on the island with nonone out :D
Anyway back to the story. From 3 till 6pm the waves were pumping at wollamai (spelling?) 4-5ft perfect walls. Pretty much no better surfing conditions you will get for a kneelo comp and it was stopped.
Today the opens have been put in 1st leading into one of the lowest tides of the year with 1-2ft howling onshore winds. If you can picture that your still not close.
The comp has finally been put on hold till the tide changes which is a good call but some open heats were run early. I'm not willing to voice my opinion on hear Wayne but some crappy decisions have been made.
Leave it at that.
The comp has not been blessed with waves. Yesterday was the only day to talk about. The big scores you have been seeing on previous days was not in anyway consistent with what you may think may have been going down in the water. It was someone getting waves that allowed them to maybe do two linked turns and was scored major points
The comp has just restarted at 11.40am with girls now on then juniors and pro juniors being run then finishing with the remainder of the open round of 48. 6 or 8 heats to go?
The forecast is hopefull. Last 2 days we may have a building swell from 4-6ft maybe?
Looking out at the waves now is sickly bad.
Gav is not in the comp! He has had something happen to him that has prevented him to compete. Not my place to say but he is not hurt or I'll so that no one worries.
Better go now and figure out how to surf this mess before my heat.
We are praying for the waves to get bigger & most importantly the tide to come in. We are plagued by the low tide for the last few days.
See ya

I just read over my last post & want to add that the guys who got the 9+ scores did surf well but geez
I'm jealous I guess
Opens are running and swell is 4ft with howling onshore winds. Very contestable compared to thismorning.
No more heats after the open heat 12 today. Tomorrow everyone on standby for possible location change? No running sheet for tomorrow.
The USA team got 2 people into the finals today.
If you could just see the outside conditions right now

Jeepers ... Simon ... beaten by DP ... that man is ageless.

Sorry to see things aren't running at 100% ... but thats surfing contests ... damned if you do damned if you don't ... maybe things will improve for the last few rounds.

Hey Simon are you camping in that Jayco of yours ... :?:

My plans of attending were scuttled by the selling of our family abode ... and my lack of attendance is now getting more complicated by issues pertaining to the purchase of another ... stressing out up here on the goldie ... I'd much rather be sitting on my arse at PI right now ... free surfing and partaking in a few refreshing bevies ... enjoy.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand.
While imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

Tough loss, Sparrow. To lose is one thing... by 0.2...

Yikes.

Hopefully you can find some lips to bash to take out your frustration.
