Qualifying for Worlds 2011

Post by stevea »

I have been following this post with great interest and agree wholeheartedly that this event has the ability to be the greatest gathering of the tribe ever and a way should be found to allow all who wish to enter to do so ,while those who have supported KSA and International Qualifying events should not be disadvantaged BUT how many comps in W A ,let alone Japan ,France ,Portugal ,Spain p.s ive met KB surfers from those regions here in Bali

The fact that the Coffs event seems to disappeared and the Woolongong comp changing dates is enough to make the 2 comp rule unfair considering when the rule came into force it gave much more leeway ie more events over 3 years not 2

I would assume that a ratings system would provide seedings for those who have qualified under KSA criteria .All others could surf in trials for a place in the main event if numbers are already over the limit ,

I am one of those people who has been unable to compete in KSA events since ive been living in Indonesia since 2004 ,however i will be personally devastated if unable compete at the 2011 worlds

The 2011 Worlds would could if allowed be my 40th year in kneeboard competition ,but my passion for kneeboard surfing predates that before i first kissed a girl ,drove a car ,downed a beer, rolled a reefer,i wrestled with being a surfer or rugby league player

I guess what id like to know is how many kneelos are currently qualified and how many want to go to the Worlds but have no chance of meeting the criteria ,apart from being kneeboard surfers

Sorry i seem to be all over the place there are so many thoughts rushing through my head on this issue i feel a therapy session with miss bintang in order

Old Crazy says it looks like more yea's than nays ... but it all comes down to what the governing body does on the day ... but hey what about that double flier pintail with the fantastic spray ... hooray ... in total emphatic agreement with Steve A ... Aye ... were there a will there's a way ... Aye ... or a family fighting over a decease estate.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand.
While imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

I am sure this has now become the source of much frustration to more than just potential worlds attendees.

kinda off topic, but is there a last day to sign up for the contest or is it first come first serve. Sorry if it's been already answered.

I'm gonna try my best to make it, but it's pretty much up to if I can get into a study abroad program over there or getting some engineering internship over there. I probably won't be able to find out if I'll make till last minute.

Hay Steve,
there is about 34 guys from Vic qualified to enter the words and more to come i think we will end up qualifying 40 + kneelos through our state rounds...

If there is any one who thinks they are going to have trouble qualifying... Become a member of kneeboard surfing vic and surf in our state rounds!!!!! We still have 2 to go...

Flights to Melbourne are reasonably cheep and the fellas would be able to accommodate some of our kneelo brethren..

Here are our contest dates and contact details

Kneeboard Surfing Victoria are running the Kneeboard State Titles in 2010. It will be over 4 rounds with the best 3 counting. Dates for each round are Saturday 27th feb at the Island, Sunday 14th mar on the peninsula, Sunday 9th oct at the Island and Saturday 20th nov on the peninsula. For further details contact Kneeboard Surfing Victoria 0438360166.

If ya keen to surf the worlds and your on the east coast of Aus you will find a way ... and here are 2 more chances with plenty of notice with advantage of getting more practice in Vicco surf..

I hope this helps a bit :P

This is a discussion board and sure that the powers that be will take note. It would be a shame that ony Aussies, Kiwis, and Cali folks would be allowed to compete. It would not truly be a world comp would it?

Would suggest that outislanders and outlanders could submit a surfing experience resume in lieu of contest experience and surf qualifying rounds to get in the main gig.

There seems to be a BIG misconception that the qualifying rules that are being discussed apply to everyone. They only apply to australians. Everyone else is open to enter without these rules applying. The rule was bought in a few years ago to try to keep the australian circuit strong and reward those people who put in to the sport at a grassroots level with a chance to surf in a world title. I believe there is also a process where dispensation can be granted.
Without a circuit or clubs there would not be the ability to raise the amount of funds or the manpower to run this event.
I know the organisers want as many as possible from as many countries as possible. So make sure you get your entry in.

Thanks for the clarification, Old Kneelo, this year has been a particularly difficult year for the organisers especially while trying to build and improve the current circuit - which by the way has happened this year with more prize money on offer & the foray into an improved judging system at the Wollongong comp. Despite some set backs that people aren't always privy to, the circuit is moving onward & upward & being proactive in this process will only help it to continue in this direction. There have been some very valid points raised in this thread, but things are unlikely to change with the format with the Titles already promoted and underway for this year (my personal opinion). There is definitely a lot of work happening to try and tie down the details of a north coast comp but nothing solid has happened to nail it all down yet, hence no announcement. I think the role of the organisers, voluntary organisers, is very much under played in this thread especially this year with things going pear shaped, they are working their collective butts off to get things happening, so "mud" throwing instead of being proactive in some sort of solution is really disappointing - not taking away from the healthy debate that has been happening here....

I think I'll shut the old pie hole about now,

Cheers Wolruss
