Lefts? :D

Actually, HB is a tad cheaper to get than Steamers. I think this is a great chance to bring one of the premier Kneelo events in the world to the place that's been a hotbed of the sport (at least in the US) for decades.

I do think (and hope) we will be back in Santa Cruz again before too long!

So stoked to have this event at the Pier! :D There is some deep kneeboarding history in Huntington.

On another note, I have gear from the Santa Cruz contest available in San Diego (Joe updated the homepage). I will be coming up to Huntington in 2-3 weeks to surf the Cove so if anybody wants anything let me know.
Thanks!

Definitely some serious kneeboard history at the pier; I remember you could walk in " George's Surf Center " ( mid-70's) on main street and there toward the back of the shop was a couple of double-sided racks with nothin but kneeboards !
Kneeboarding since 1976; always searching for the ultimate sled, always in awe and grateful for the work of master craftsmen, Romanosky, Frye, Cleary, Mc Cray, Timpone, Ballestar, Minami, Hart.

I got my first board there. I think I was in the eighth grade. I would walk back to those two racks and marvel at all those bitchen kneeboards.

La Rana Fishes were $125.00
Haydu's were $110, unless you got color and a pin-line, then $125.00

Because it was my first board and mom was springing $$ for it for my birthday, I opted for the G&S 5'0" single fin, swallow tail. Orange on the bottom and rails. Clear on the deck with a black pin line. I was soooooo stoked! $90.00

It was dished out on the deck line a small bath tub. Hell, I had never even surfed before! (My friend Robert, on my little leauge football team said he had a kneeboard and because they were under 5"5", we could take them on the bus to the beach. Turns out the bastard never really owned one. So I was kinda tricked into kneeboarding).

The highlight, or most embarassing moment of my life, was when we went to the counter to purchase it and my mom says to the salesman......"Does'nt it come with a rudder or something?"

I remember when me and my Boogie Board frends whent in to Georges and my buddy Mike ordered a Haydu . Few weeks later we were at 56th St. amd Mike pulls out his new board. After seeing him out paddle and and out ride all us Boogers. I was hooked. Went accrost the street to the Frog house and got my first board.

Feelin Old ?

Post by Fossil Man »

Max, don't get feeling too crusty there buddy,...judging by those gnarlatious shots of July Wedge and Mentawais madness I'd say you might just now be hitting you're prime.
I kept trying to remember the brand name of those other sweet lookin fishes on those racks,...La Rana, could've sat here all night and not remembered the name but they sure were fine. Got my first new Haydu right around then from Ron's "factory" off Placentia St. ? Yup, $ 125 bucks, two color , pinline ,full gloss and polish. Where DID I park my time machine anyway?

I can't wait for this contest. A dream come true. 100 of the worlds best Kneelo's in Huntington Beach, CA. Epic. The survival of kneeriding and the future of our sport could depend on events like this. In the surf industry's backyard. We could really use this to the advantage. Maybe marketing to the future of the sport of kneeriding. See ya in January

Great strategic move by holding contest in HB. Ler is correct in that this can be marketed to industry easier in this SoCal location.

It would be cool to tie in SIMA as well as the Surfing Heritage Foundation.

Remember it well and bought boards there.

Being a small small world, there is a lady here in SoTex (kneeboarder) that used to work at Georges and an Environmental Prof at UT Brownsville whose family owned the camera shop near Jack's. They were telling surf ghetto stories recently.
