Bud,
I'd love to make it. Last (and only) time I's on the N Shore the biggest we had was 3' Off the wall. I had to resort to stand up at Turtle Bay
But finance is a tricky one, what with Tahiti and all....

Attention all!
Randy Lau's beachfront accommodations will be let loose for general bookings to the public, starting Saturday Dec. 24, 2003.
This means the exclusive kneeboarderes only "reserve" will be terminated.
He has turned down several non kneeboarder bookings already. He can't afford to any longer.
Want to come and join up with the kneeboard crew?
BOOK NOW!!!
Contact Randy at:
808-778-4002 or 808-550-8200
I'll try to help anyone interested in visiting the North Shore this spring with other accommodation options if his place is not available.
Aloha,
Bud

Aloha!
The North Shore Kneeboard Gathering 04 is fast approaching.
It's been a wet and wild surf season so far. Not that many bright sunny days but there's been more good surf than anyone could ever handle.
We've been scoring fantastic waves despite the endless gigantic swells and regular torrential rains.
I'm confident that this pattern will turn to more moderate swell and superb conditions for the gathering.
I've just got word that another house (next to mine) will be available starting February 21 onward.
It is the vacation home of Barton Lynch and Aaron Chang.
Clean comfortable 2 bedroom house that will accomodate 4 + people.
Just a few steps to Sunset and Back Yards.
$100 per night + $100 cleaning fee + taxes.
Contact Betty Surratt at Sterman Realty in Haleiwa for booking details.
808-637-6200.
Be there or be square!

I attended the NSG last year and just got back from a few days on the North Shore with Buddy. I would recommend this trip to anyone. The waves are awesome and super consistent. The crowds are mellow and the location is beautiful. Oahu is very accessable by most major airlines. The lodging Bud has lined up is on the beach directly in front of Backyards and Sunset. Velzy is just a short walk down the beach.

BIG? Uh oh. My cajones are still lima bean sized from surfing Ocean Beach in a leaky wetsuit.
Mike, call me on my cell when you get in. Jeff.

FYI
The surf has been regularly EPIC since Dec. 24th.
There are a few visiting kneeboarders here already.
Rick Curtis CA
(just moved back here after 20 years and of note, was the winner of the last Pipeline Kneeboard Expression Session held in 1979)
Russell Stott CA
Paul Wuslich CA
(all from Santa Cruz CA)
Ganossi Canada (formerly from Central Coast NSW)
Yesterday morning 4 of us kneeboarders scored 4-5' perfect, roping, thumping, 150 yard lefts at a semi secret spot for 3 hours, by ourselves!
Yesterday afternoon 5 of us scored INSANE 6-10' HWN "Day Star" out Mokuleia way.
BIG beautiful turquoise, light offshore A frame peaks.
ABSOLUTELY DREAM LIKE!!!
(Sorry no pictures........too far out from shore.)
Forecast looks to be Fantastic for the Gathering!
Looking forward to seeing all attendees in the next few days.
Aloha,
Bud

North Shore Gathering Recap

Mike,
Thanks for passing this along to all of us. I've been wondering how good you all got it, who showed up, etc. and you did a lot to fill in the envying masses. 15' Backyards--how did you paddle out through that reef with no real passages?!
Now we're just waiting for some pics from you guys. Last year's were awesome.
Next February (third week), I hope to return to the North Shore for a week--maybe a new Gathering will be starting around then...

To answer Scott's question.............
Uh.........Back Yards at over 8' is easily accessed by paddling all the way around from the lefts via the bay toward V-Land.
The rip just pulls you out. You can get out there without getting your hair wet!............(until your cleaned up by the 15'r wide sets)
Problem with it is that the 8-10'rs on the inside are pretty far to to the right and inside of the REAL sets...3rd reef.
Best be sure to get your wave.
Miss it and you PAY HEAVY TAXES!
FUN FUN FUN!
Surf is still firing with no end in sight.
Aloha,
Bud
