Great post, Simon. I guess the truly insane days never have the photos--sort of a law of surfing. Glad for the memories you'll have forever.

g land

Post by stevea »

what a great time we had not so for those indonesians that lost their livelihood or the tow in moron who will never find his manhood but for kneeboard surfing and all those shortboard surfers who witnessed and will never forget the surfing of gav and simon at both g land and ulu watu quote from a 20yr old "i saw this kneelo in the deepest barrel ive ever seen come out and back door into a deeper one then this other kneelo pulls into a bigger one i reckon they are the kings of g land " another quote from ulus yesterday "that guys the best kneelo ive ever seen "after gavs barrel "no that guys the best kneelo ive ever seen"after simons "f888 those kneelos have taken over lucky theres only 2 of them "i will be having stills taken from the video i shot in g land and ulus and maybe a wave or two phew its great being a kneelo

Simon - great stuff. I'm glad I wasn't there. My shrivelled cajones would have seen my 'bad back" playing up!
its good to know Finger's got Red's 6'10"
I guess his need is greater, but when I turned up at the contest at Gunna yesterday faced with evil onshore 4-8' I was kind of missing one of my bigger boards. Oh well, my "condition red" 6'2" did good.

Well done in G Land lads.

sounds epic ,lads 8)
to bad about the wind.who'd have thought there would be a lack of wind in indo after last season hey?You guys were priviledged to see the place under those conditions 8)

Red,
just wondering if you are planning on using "condition red" as a label?

I have a surfboard shaper friend who has traded under that name in Australia and the USA for about 25 years. Some of our American friends may have seen the label in Southern California as he does a shaping stint in the US anually.

just a heads up :)

OT

Interesting, Ross
I have had the company name registered for a number of years and am currently laminating my boards with the logo (see my avatar). I've not sold any boards with the label but do operate in other industries under that name.
My boards are co-branded with Stump Surfboards on the Peninsula. Stumpie is a super knowledgeable shaper and has helped me heaps, especially with breaking out of the "typical kneeboard design" mould. He's also cutting his own style kneeboards for Stan Kofoed and a few others.

I'm interested in your friends label and in avoiding any bad feeling or confusion.
How might I contact him?

WOW, I can't imagine paddling out under those conditions. G-Land ABSOLUTELY needs the offshores for the magic to happen; without it, justs sections on ya. At that size.........
Simon, I guess Martin D. feels some sense of entitlement, he should know better. I like your reference to the "Death Star." You must have some misty pics that may look "artsey" of the Big Day. Sounds like you still scored G-Land going off, hopefully as good as the original "Sparrow" vid.
I'm glad you're all safe and can't wait to see what you put together. I knew you wouldn't keep completely out of trouble. Wayne 8)

I had a great trip to G-land. I scored one of my best barrels I've ever had. It was my 4th wave. I was riding a brand new fat 6 foot Flashpoint that Bruce just made me. However I did take a 4 fin 5'9 Blast that Buddy made me in Feb. I rode it in Hawaii and back in Sydney but just didn't feel that comfortable with it. But in G-land when the surf was around 4-5 foot, the Blast went great, I was able to do sharp turns and even throw the tail around when doing some reo's. I wouldn't mind staying in G-land for 6 months and getting to know more about riding 4 fin boards.

Swell in Indonesia

Post by Doc Turbo »

Well guys seems you caught the biggest swell of the season. West Java was enormous, with Indies at 20ft plus, and many spots unrideable. I surfed back in the corner of the harbour, and caught the point break at 6 ft plus 250 meter long rides, with no Martin Daly around, just two old kneeboarders in the water having the time of our lives until some Japanese stand ups came by after 5 hours.

It was fun, but not all that clean. I cannot imagine how huge it was in G Land, or Panaitan :o

Insane surfing Simon!! Looks like you were lighting the place up, inspiring performance buddy. I'm sure Gavin was turning a couple of heads too. I'm glad Gavin took the 4 fin out for a spin at GLand, they're a gas! Way to charge boys!!
