Mike,

Yeah Alice does crank, the break around the corner Aphelia Box occasionally goes off too! Bit like the Box in WA only with a touch more sand.

Australia in May

Mate if you listen to most of the Oz posters they keep saying there's no surf on the East coast well I kinda agree, due to limited time over that way, so head west , as the song sings and with a blindfold and some valium I will take you to uncrowded perfection!!! However it will cost...a carton of Pale Ale and the ability to cope with limited luxuries, although my new Gaggia coffee machine is gold!! May is the tail end of our surf season however, I'll see if I can arrange something!! In all seriousness enjoy your stay and I hope you have a ball...halbs.
getting there is often as good as getting there

Victoria, April (after Easter, after the tourists) and May. Consistent 4 ft and offshore. Warm days, cool mornings. The best time of year.

Goggle,

If you can spare the time, or if some of your mates can join you - go west.
Nthwest. Land in Perth, jump into a hire car and drive nth towards Geraldton.
http://www.globalsurfers.com/subregion. ... ton%20area

There are a load of waves in the area. If there is a swell running and the wind has south in it, go to Kalbari and check out Jakes. Heavy crowd, heavy wave, worth it, have some patience , go the very early, or wait for the changeover in the shifts. You might have to, in order to work out where to jump off the rock platform and how to get back in, onto the rockplatform you just jumped off!'' Which has the waves surging over it - you'll work it real quick! In my of my post, I mention the thrashing I got at Jakes - awesome wave. When it bitch slaps you, be prepared! Embarassed . For a feed, check out the local fish co-op. They used to do a fish BBQ, great value and very fresh.

If you've stayed in Kalbarri and huey is looking after you, you should have scored a surf in the evening and a morning sess. Get on the road and head north past Carnavon. http://www.globalsurfers.com/subregion. ... th%20coast

You'll see a road out to 'Blow Holes', at the t intersection, turn rt and keep heading north on the dirt road, quit a way. You'll are heading towards Red Bluff, Gnarloo and ..... You'll know when you are at Red bluff (place to camp), so many pictures of the the bay have appeared in surfing mags. very good grinding left, not as heavy as Jakes, Further north is Gnarloo, this wave is a story of it's own.

You'll need to take your own supplies into this part of the world, H2O, Beer, camping stove, tent, etc. The drive is long, but if you time it right with a swell and winds, you'll have some great story's to tell. If you do make it, make sure you've several boards and a few extra leggies, the waves in this part of the world are steep, fast and unforgiving if you're under gunned. '' Nothing worse than seeing the wave spinning off in front of you and then getting bitch slapped by the lip, only to come up and realise the rest of the set is about to unload on you - not a pleasant experience. You'll need a 3/2 steamer, more to do with the wind chill - it's in the desert.

Have a great trip in Oz, if you don't make it to WA, there is always Alice!
